The Voyage of Learning – The Active Learning Boat

By Shruti Nagar Dave

I had the opportunity to collaborate with a educators who were grappling with the challenge of integrating Active Learning principles into their curriculum. The educators and I gathered in a planning meeting to dissect their existing standards, delve into the needs of their learners, and contemplate the core concepts that would drive their educational approach. As we navigated through the curriculum and planning discussions, I created an illustrative representation to guide our process – a visual aid that encapsulated the essence of Active Learning.

While an image can only capture a fraction of the multifaceted nature of Active Learning, it served as a catalyst for our discussions. The true power lies in the application and implementation within the educational environment – the delicate balance we struck, the processes we engaged in, and the agency and responsiveness required from both educators and learners. Though a single graphic cannot encapsulate the entirety of the approach, the traction we observed and the subsequent progress made after incorporating this visual into our discussions cannot be overlooked. If you want more on it, I could have you experience it in a session.

If you’re looking to enhance your planning process with Active Learning principles, I encourage you to explore this image. It’s a tool that has proven valuable in my experiences, and while it won’t provide all the answers, it might just spark the insights you need to propel your educational strategies forward. You can download the graphic

Here’s to fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment for both educators and students alike!
